Hunger strike

by Mama Ganuush

This is the first time I am fighting against my own eating disorder, my fear of becoming suicidal, my multiple sclerosis, and the scars left by twelve years of conversion therapy—all to reclaim my body, my voice, and my story by joining a collective hunger strike. I became sick after eight days, so I asked if someone could take a day for me so I could rest and eat. This call was answered by the community, and now we are on day 16.

Our demands are clear: President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Secretary Blinken must stop supporting the rape, abduction, starvation, and murder of my people. This is a literal demand. The U.S. continues to send individuals who commit these atrocities as settlers, boasting of violence against Palestinian children and adults alike. Meanwhile, the U.S. supports Israel’s bombing of humanitarian aid, vetoes resolutions for ceasefires, and fails to disclose the numbers of American citizens aiding in war crimes against Palestinians.

The U.S. defunded UNRWA, an agency providing crucial support to Palestinian refugees, disregarding the right of Palestinians to return to their homeland. The U.S. government’s billions in military aid to Israel—along with unwavering political support—directly enables Israel’s continued campaign of violence and dispossession.
